American Mixed Tournament and picnic, Sunday 27 May from 2pm
- American Mixed Tournament - £5.00
A fun tournament for all members and standards of play - players are paired up randomly to play 4 games against another doubles pair, everyone serves a game and then each pairing splits and re-groups for the next 4 games. During the afternoon you might play 24 games, and each player keeps a tally of games won. Finishing off with a bring-your-own picnic.

Coaching for team play starts

Team coaching with Pete Cox starts on Monday April 2 2012 at St Chad’s courts at 6.15pm – weather permitting. This weekly slot is open to any club members who play – or who may want to be involved – in inter-club tournaments in the Leeds Tennis League etc. It will cost approx. £5/session for 90 mins or until dusk, whichever comes first. Dates for your diary 2012

Saturday 31 March – Club clean-up day – from 10am
All members are encouraged to come along to the outdoor courts and clubhouse to do some general maintenance on our club facilities so that it is ready for the playing season. Many hands and all that, it really would be good to see some new faces. You don’t need to spend all day working, just whatever time you can spare. General tasks include:
court clearing and scrubbing; painting; hedge cutting and so on. Please bring gardening tools, gloves etc if you have them.

Sunday 15 April – open-to-all Club sessions start -
SUNDAYS FROM 11am, WEDNESDAY EVENINGS FROM 6.30pm
With the weather hopefully improving, members can come along to the social club sessions – just turn up and play some tennis. There should always be at least one other player at the courts to make sure you get a game.

Beginning of May onwards – Club team play starts

Sunday 27 May – American Doubles competition and picnic, from 2pm
This is one of our most popular club events, open to all players of all standards and all ages! During the course of the afternoon everyone plays with everyone else in a series of 4-game mini competitions. Bring along a rug and picnic and make an afternoon of it with family and friends. More information on this nearer the time.

Sunday 24 June – Open Afternoon for new and prospective members, 2pm -
4pm
Our annual event to encourage people to join St Chad’s Tennis Club is coinciding with a big community event in the church grounds so there’ll be lots going on. Bring friends and family along, meet Club coach Pete Cox, play some tennis.

June to August – Club tournament time!
Enter our internal club mixed, men’s and ladies’ doubles tournaments and maybe come away the victor! We will send details out in early May but start choosing your partners. Don’t worry if you don’t have someone to play with, we are happy to find partners for those who need them.

Leeds Tennis League News

The Mixed team in the Leeds Tennis League had a successful season finishing in 2^nd place just two points behind the league winners and new entrants – the John Charles Centre.

Fifteen players represented the club in the 8 matches, all of which were played in a friendly but competitive spirit.

The second place finish could lead to promotion to Division 1 next season.

Indoor tennis at St Chad’s Tennis Club

The Club’s indoor tennis season runs from mid-September to mid-April in 6 date blocks, and provides members with the opportunity to carry on playing tennis throughout the winter months.

Around July-time members are asked if they want to participate, they give their preferred evenings and durations and the blocks are allocated accordingly, depending on availability and take up.

Play is on a Tuesday or Thursday evening, from 8pm and for one or two hours. The sessions are organised in blocks of four or five weeks. We use the indoor courts at Leeds Met’s Tennis Centre at their Headingley Campus. There is an additional cost involved (£4.50/hour) as the club has to pay for the court usage.

For those of you who haven’t joined the club yet but are thinking about it there may still be an opportunity to participate in the winter tennis as players do drop out due to injury/other commitments – email us and we’ll see what’s available. Also visit our ‘How to join’ page.
